Lochter Fishery, Aberdeenshire, set in beautiful surroundings with Bennachie as a backdrop, caters for both fly and bait fishing. Closed at present due to the Covid 19 pandemic the usual opening hours are 8.00am to dusk all year round. With ample parking space there is no need to book in advance.

There are 3 Fly Fishing Lochs covering 14 acres of water and two Bait Fishing Ponds. Well known in fishing circles is the uniquely designed Muckle Troot Loch in the shape of a leaping trout.

             

Lochter is a Troutmaster water and has, in recent years, held the National and International Stillwater Championships. It has also won the Trout Fisherman magazine Fishery of the Year. Annually 15,000 anglers enjoy fishing at this stunning fishery.

Lochter stock the finest quality rainbow trout ranging in size from 2lb to well into double figures and have a natural head of brown trout. The fish are strong, well toned and put up a good fight once on the line.

               

The fishery caters for expert fisherman and novices with fishing lessons available for those keen to improve their skills, or learn from scratch. Lessons include the hire of equipment as well as tuition from their expert instructors. If you should find yourself in the area but without your fishing kit you can hire the equipment you need and you can take advantage of the extensive range of flies and lures suited to catching their fish. Also take advantage of the returns book which will give an insight into which flies have been used successfully used in recent days.

Refreshments are available from the Bothy. Order something delicious from the onsite restaurant and enjoy either in the bothy itself or outside in the beautiful fresh air at one of the picnic tables. While you are there you can enjoy watching the pair of Osprey which nest and raise their chicks there in the summer months, showing off their own amazing fishing skills.

Should you wish to visit with your family, there are plenty of outdoor activities to keep the children entertained via the Lochter Activity Centre. Activities include Simulated Game Shooting, Go-Karting, Archery, Target Golf, Blindfold O ff Road, Clay Pigeon, Segway, Rifle Targets, Zorbing and Raft Building.

With a lovely restaurant providing sandwiches to delicious main meals and afternoon tea Lochter is the ideal destination for all your outdoor adventures.
